Privacy policy

Vear Services Private Limited (“Vear”, “we”, “us”) builds reference apps for iOS and Android. This policy explains what our apps do with information, and what they deliberately do not do.

The short version

Our apps have no accounts and no login. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number in order to use them, and we operate no server that receives your data. Everything you create inside an app — bookmarks, highlights, notes, study progress — stays on your device.

Two things do involve the internet, and both are described in full below: some apps download updated statute text, and paid subscriptions are processed by the app store you bought through. Neither sends us anything about you.

Information we do not collect

Device permissions

Our apps do not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos, calendar or health data. They do not need any of it to work.

They do request ordinary network access, which the two features below need. On Android this appears as the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions, both granted automatically at install and neither capable of reading anything about you.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only in the app's own private storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us, and we have no way to read it:

Searches run locally against the text already on your device. We receive no record of what you read, search for, highlight or save. Deleting the app, or clearing its data, removes all of it permanently — we hold no copy, so there is nothing to restore.

Updated statute text

Our BNS, BNSS and BSA apps ship the full statute text inside the app and work offline. Because statutes are amended, these apps additionally check for an updated copy of that text at most once every 24 hours, and download it if one is available.

That file is hosted on Google Firebase Storage. The request asks only for a public file. It carries no account, no device identifier and nothing about your use of the app. As with any request to any website, Google necessarily receives your device's IP address and standard request information in order to serve the file; that is handled under Google's own privacy policy, which we do not control. We receive nothing from this process, and it produces no record we can see.

Our Companies Act and Patanjali Yoga Sutras apps do not do this. Their text ships in the app and is updated only when you install a new version from the store.

Subscriptions and payments

Our BNS, BNSS, BSA and Companies Act apps offer an optional paid subscription that unlocks study and annotation features. The rest of each app is free.

The Patanjali Yoga Sutras app contains no purchases of any kind.

Not legal advice

Our apps reproduce the text of statutes for reference. They do not provide legal advice, and using them does not create a lawyer–client relationship. Always verify a provision against the official gazette text before relying on it.

When you write to us

If you email our support address, we will hold your message and email address for as long as it takes to resolve the issue and for a reasonable period afterwards for our own records. We use it only to reply to you.

Services we rely on

Apps distributed through the App Store and Google Play are subject to the policies of Apple and Google respectively. Those companies may collect information about downloads, crashes and purchases under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Beyond the Google Play billing component required to sell a subscription on Android, and the Google Firebase Storage hosting described above, our apps embed no third-party advertising, analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

Children

Our apps are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Your rights

Because we do not hold personal data about you beyond any correspondence you send us, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or erase. If you have written to us and would like that correspondence deleted, ask and we will do it. Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 applies, you may contact us at the address below to exercise your rights under that Act.

Changes to this policy

If we change what our apps do with information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
